มีการคาดเดาจากข่าวลือข่างหลุด  เช่น หลุด!! เอกสาร Starbucks Pokémon GO ซึ่งคาดว่า Niantic มีแผนเพิ่มระบบความสามารถใหม่ให้กับผู้เล่นเกม Pokémon GO แม้จะยังไม่มีการยืนยันอย่างเป็นทางการในขณะนี้

ซึ่งคาดว่า Niantic จะออกอัปเดทครั้งใหญ่ในเดือนธันวาคมนี้ ซึ่งจะมีการเพิ่มตัวโปเกมอนอีกกว่า 100 ตัว รวมถึงโปเกมอนในตำนานด้วย รวมไปถึง ระบบ ต่อสู้กันเองของผู้เล่น และระบบแลกเปลี่ยนโปเกมอน

อย่างไรก็ตาม ขณะนี้ยังไม่มีการยืนยันข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการอัปเดทในครั้งนี้จาก Niantic แต่ซีอีโอของบริษัทเคยบอกใบ้เอาไว้เมื่อเดือนกันยายนว่าจะมีการเพิ่มระบบซื้อขาย ระบบต่อสู้กันเอง และอื่น ๆ อย่างแน่นอน
